I've been having problems getting all the modules to load on the first time. For example, I have to mount the CD-ROM twice. I have to load the sound module twics or sometimes load it manually. I think that loading everything as a module would be fine for a setup. However, unless there has been additional development on kerneld, I think that it is better to compile commonly used or critical modules into the kernel.
