Sound Card

Hi all
I`ve a Sound Blaster 16 Card .
I`ve read HOWTOS etc but to no avail
I did make config etc.
copied my zImage to /zImage

Ran lilo etc .
    cp /zImage to /dev/fd0 etc.

When I`m booting up , I can see my Sound Card
the
  Kernel Panic : Can`t mount fs ( or something like this )

Does anyone know what the problem is
My Kernel is 1.2.13 and SlackWare Version 3.0.X
Linux is HDD /dev/sdb1

I`m totally lost at what is happening . I`ve recompiled the Kernel
numerous times
Anyone any clues ????????????
