Shouldn't make any difference since linux pays no attention to dos.
It doesn't even use the BIOS.

The only thing you might want to be careful about might be that you
want *no* JApanese filenames in the root directory, and no Japanese
filenames anywhere in the UMSDOS/Linux subhierarchy, since DOS's
Japanese finlenames are quite possibly incompatible iwth JE's.  But
elsewhere it shouldn't matter.  If you plan to repartition the disk
and let linux have its own partition then this is irrelevant.

I don't have any problem running English mode of DOS/V in an XDOS.  I
have not tried to figure out how to run Japanese mode of DOS/V under
DOSemu.
