And should I start kon everytime before startx? Bad > lack. I am using Slackware 5 disk set. You don't need to run kon to run X. For the fonts, the first thing is to confirm that you have the fonts installed. Use xlsfonts # xlsfonts |grep jis Here is what I have: niji:/usr/local/bin# xlsfonts |grep jis -jis-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-c-0-jisx0208.1983-0 -jis-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-110-100-100-c-160-jisx0208.1983-0 -jis-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-160-jisx0208.1983-0 -jis-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-170-100-100-c-240-jisx0208.1983-0 -jis-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-240-jisx0208.1983-0 -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-c-0-jisx0201.1976-0 -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-c-0-jisx0208.1983-0 -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-140-jisx0208.1983-0 -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-70-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-100-100-c-0-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-120-100-100-c-80-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-80-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-170-100-100-c-120-jisx0201.1976-0 -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-120-jisx0201.1976-0 Also, you might want to run mkfontdir again to make sure that the fonts.dir file in each font directory is updated. The X and font servers use the fonts.dir file to find the fonts. # mfontdir /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/misc e ---------------------- Craig Oda craig@example.com http://www2.twics.com/~craig TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System, over a decade of fostering virtual communities in Japan.
