haha -- I always love comments like this.  Usually from foreigners who
have stayed in Japan "far too long".  :-)  I have to admit I used to
be in this camp...especially towards the end of my last stint in
Japan.  But I've come to appreciate some of these rules because the
alternative is getting what you want based on how loud your voice is.
And that's not good either (unless you were born with a particularly
loud voice).  All this disorder doesn't sit well for the IT-half of me
which thinks in 0's and 1's...

I guess it's all a matter of whether one wants to look at a situation
as being a glass that is "half full" or "half empty".

About the original question, I'm not in Japan, but yeah...scams are
everywhere.  And many organizations like to consolidate access on to
our smartphone (i.e., via apps, etc.).  It's such a headache if I ever
lose it...
