[tlug] [Offtopic] Anybody interested in participating in bulk order of foodstuffs from Europe?

Hi Everybody,

I will be starting a small artisan bakery in Tokyo next month specialising in European regional breads made from regional flours which I am in the process of importing through a forwarding company in Northern Germany. The suppliers will send the flours to their warehouse and the forwarding company will then combine it all into an LCL (less-than-container load) shipment to Japan. If everything was shipped piecemeal the cost would be prohibitive.

Not surprisingly, the shipping cost becomes more affordable as volume goes up.

I need to bring down the cost of one 25 Kg sack of flour to 50 EUR at least for the first few shipments while building up volume. In order to increase the volume accordingly without buying too much stuff in advance (wholemeal flours do eventually go rancid) I am inviting others to join in on a bulk shipment whereby shipping cost is shared proportionally.

Some Italian restaurants are interested in getting durum wheat pasta flour from the same region where I am sourcing durum wheat bread flour so the idea seems to have merit but I also thought that there may be people on this list who like to get certain things they cannot easily get here in Japan and may want to join in. Or somebody might just be in the process of starting an online olive oil or wine import business or similar. Last but not least somebody might know somebody who might be interested. However, please note that perishable goods are off limits. Also, participation should have a certain size, don't expect to join in with a single jar of honey please, think cartons or boxes and larger. Thanks.

Please contact me off-list.
