I recommend i3 (you can move to Wayland if you want to just by dropping
in sway).
I used to use dwm for 5 years, but moved to KWin (on KDE) since there is
no sane compositing available these days for stand-alone window
managers: compton, xcompmgr etc are not being developed anymore and have
bugs and performance issues. KWin compositing on the other hand is fast
& smooth, and the WM supports tiling too (either manual or augmented by
scripts (KWin is programmable, just like Awesome and Xmonad)).
