Yeah, back in the old days we used to install from Stage 1 and that was
fine. But when they started recommending installs from Stage 3, the
first thing you'd do (after unpacking Stage 3) is download the latest
portage tree and then rebuild all the changed packages, which was almost
everything anyway. My point is that the only thing that has changed is
that you have a fully functioning system sooner.

Isn't that right? Since Gentoo features continuous updates, it's been a
very long time since I've done an install.
