The "G" in "gnome-" stands for "GNU", whose founder's attitude toward
standards is "This is the *GNU* System; it conforms to *GNU* standards."
I've had run-ins with Havoc Pennington over Metacity and the X11 ICCCM,
too.  That is at least the #2 reason, and maybe the #1 reason, for the
"x" in my address....
