Thanks Mattia!  I tried it, but it was the same problem (these are 
changes on the USB side, but I can't get past the PCMCIA/USB bridge).  
Anyway, I'll continue hacking on this in my spare time; if I'm 
successful I'll ask your advice how to submit the patch :-)
