The best thing in the near future is the Desire, but that comes with the Softbank network. If you are really adventurous, get a Nexus One. It's unlocked and works on the docomo network (probably others too). The biggest plus is that the boot loader is unlocked too -- you can install anything you like, without having to 'jailbreak' it. You won't get unlimited plan, though.
