I get the same error message in XEmacs (21.4.21)

I added (require 'cl) as John suggested, which succeeded in the 
sense that I can get down a bit further in the routine, but am again 
stopped at "get-current-line".

Perhaps there is a problem with the Debian setup of Emacs and 
XEmacs? I'm using Squeeze.
