It starts with not top posting ;-)

Other than that it's not different than running a desktop.
The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you have
services running that are accessible from the bad bad internet
and as such have to be kept especially secure. Also not running
anything on the server that is not absolutely needed helps
keeping things easy and secure. Using encrypted communication
paths for anything that involves passwords (ssh, sftp, pops, imaps)
instead of unencrypted counter parts (telnet, ftp, pop, imap) is
a must.

Other than that, it's nothing special.
Of course, there are certain things (eg the "correct" partitioning)
that make administrative tasks simpler or more failure prove,
but those things have to be learned on the job, either by
your own mistakes or from a senior admin who coaches you.

i'm willing to teach you a few of this and that, if
you agree to host the Japanese MPlayer mirror :-)
