The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you have services running that are accessible from the bad bad internet and as such have to be kept especially secure. Also not running anything on the server that is not absolutely needed helps keeping things easy and secure. Using encrypted communication paths for anything that involves passwords (ssh, sftp, pops, imaps) instead of unencrypted counter parts (telnet, ftp, pop, imap) is a must. Other than that, it's nothing special. Of course, there are certain things (eg the "correct" partitioning) that make administrative tasks simpler or more failure prove, but those things have to be learned on the job, either by your own mistakes or from a senior admin who coaches you. > I have duo > processor, 100 Mb fiber optic connection, 95% free 500 Gb of space. Depends on what you are doing ;-) BTW: If you really want to learn how to run a server, i'm willing to teach you a few of this and that, if you agree to host the Japanese MPlayer mirror :-) (Yes, we are still lacking a Japanese mirror) Attila Kinali -- It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more. -- Albus P.
