It's not only these two companies. I've had problems with ALL makers saying I cannot use their products on English Windows, etc. No one wants to deal with foreign (even English) systems. Sony's there, Dell, and all other brand names. I still don't understand what they have to gain by being so tight.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have bad experiences with Linux
support for Canon and Epson before, so I'm avoiding these brands.
Brother looks like a good option for me, and I'm now considering
Brother Color LaserJet HL-4050CDN.
