Considering that the 2 characters in question display as little boxes 
(except when trying to quote or copy/paste them, in which case they 
turn into capital 'I' as seen above), i for one won't be using them 
very often.

Suggestions for how to definitively fix the problem of unusual 
characters displaying as boxes would be appreciated. Oddly, i can copy 
the characters and paste them into a terminal or into an emacs window 
and then they display just fine. My mailer (kmail) doesn't like them 
though.
