I'll be brave and make a cynical prediction here - they're going to
put a stay on the EOL at as late a time as possible.  Anything
to keep their Stockholm Syndrome customer base on the hook and
attempt to make themselves look like "heros" at the same time.

They have to.  Microsoft Vista is never going to run on a low end
notebook and low end notebooks are gaining in popularity.
