The nature of FLAC means that all player (should) be putting 
out the same bits. So it shouldn't matter which player you use. 
xmms, xine, noatrun, whatever. 

Hardware is another matter. The audio board _is_ quite significant. 
The M-Audio/Midiman boards are good, and well supported by Alsa. 
Don't cheap out.
