Pretty sure snort is another one.....its more system wide. more on the intrusion detection, depends on what your after.

I need to monitor a set of directories and files for changes, and do
something when a file changes.

I know this is trivial in Linux, but I just cannot remember the name
of the program that does it.

Can someone give me something to Google?
