Interesting articles. I note that the little Sony handhelds (look like Wii crap) have amazing little 3.4" screens at 1024x600 pixels (224MB graphics cards), and it seems the ppi is between 220 and 285 depending on version and x/y direction. Hard to make I bet.
I remember wanting to get a Toshiba G5 (?) model about two years back when the UXGA screens were available (1600x1200 on 14.1" screens), but they all had defects (a few pixels not working or stuck) and the manufacturer had warning saying that the production process was so difficult that they could not prevent such issues and that the customer could not claim for this. Obviously, they tried hard, the effect was pretty impressive, but not yet perfect.
