There are billions of settings directories and files hidden under the typical home directory (*), all starting with ".". Even if FC6 and centOS5 are similar I wonder if that may make your system unstable (or, at least, confusing to configure). You may find the system runs more smoothly if you just backup the important files under your home directory, and copy them over into a freshly created centOS5 home directory. Darren *: I'm thinking single user with gnome or KDE kind of system; if this is a server with hundreds of users who don't have a GUI then it is probably not a worry.
