I usually set the options in /etc/cpufreqd.conf for AC connected work to
[Rule] name=AC Rule ac=on # (on/off) profile=On Demand High [/Rule]
Otherwise my notebook will always run with full clock speed and get hot. You can also adjust the rules for certain programs to adjust the clock speed instantly.
[Rule] name=Movie Watcher programs=xine,mplayer,gmplayer,wine battery_interval=0-100 acpi_temperature=0-60 cpu_interval=0-100 profile=Performance High [/Rule]
[Rule] name=AC Rule ac=on # (on/off) profile=On Demand Low [/Rule]
And now it runs at a reasonably cool temp to the touch, for charging the battery.
