Thank you for replying.
Following the information you gave, I've discovered that both cards have the "sdd: sdd1" designation. I guess that means that both are treated like a hard disk, and not like a superdisk.
Looking up on the net, I've discovered that the default format for SD cards formatted on the Palm Pilot is FAT16. But I don't know what file format it is on the micro-SD card (or if the format makes a difference).
I've included the dmesg output from both cards below.
Ironically, the micro-SD card that works also gave me some errors this time, which you can see here. Some I/O request errors. However, despite these errors, I'm able to browse the contents of the card and move contents on and off.
