Can I wipe out everything up to and including the "--" and then past in new text?
Dave, what do you want is to log the date of modification and the the perpon who does it, right?
If it is the purpose of what you are trying to do, then use some source code control system like CVS, they can do it ( and more, see below ) for you.
Here is an example:
* $Id: ansi.c,v 1.1.1.1 2002/03/27 23:25:18 andrew_belov Exp $
You can also check the history if any files.
