Learning sed is very worthwhile, at least to a level of familarity (as opposed to knowning it detail). You might not use it a lot but the jobs that it is good at will save you a lot of work and you can brush up on it when you need to use it. Certainly having a reasonable understanding of regular expressions is very useful. I recently updated 400 or so html files, removing the server name from URL links - the whole task took a few minutes.
