Hi, asus p5b-vm on board motherboard doesn't work google indicates a common problem perhaps 2.6.19_rc may fix it for 2.6.18, I gave up and disabled it in bios got a corega cg-lapcitx lan card with "Linux" written on the box. (also have a logitec lan-tx/pci I could try but ... only if the corega doesn't want to cooperate) How do I set it up? 1) put it in 2) ? configure how. I deleted all hardware and device entries and rebooted and the following is what was detected. below is modprobe.conf, /var/log/messages | grep eth0, and /var/log/messages | grep 8139 (which is the presumed driver) Here is modprobe.conf alias scsi_hostadapter ahci alias scsi_hostadapter1 ata_piix alias scsi_hostadapter2 usb-storage alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-card-0 index=0 options snd-hda-intel index=0 remove snd-hda-intel { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-hda-intel alias eth0 8139too alias peth0 8139too [note: there was an "option 8139too" line before alias which I took out since it was throwing errors. Don't think it's relevant] /var/messages | grep eth0 shows: Dec 16 12:18:13 localhost kernel: eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xf887c400, 00:0a:79:88:a6:d0, IRQ 169 Dec 16 12:18:14 localhost kernel: eth0: link down Dec 16 12:18:14 localhost kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready Dec 16 12:19:40 localhost system-config-network[3128]: - + //etc/modprobe.conf eth0 alias 8139too Dec 16 12:19:40 localhost system-config-network[3128]: chmod 0644 //etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0.bak Dec 16 12:19:40 localhost system-config-network[3128]: chmod 0644 //etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0 Dec 16 12:19:40 localhost system-config-network[3128]: rm //etc/sysconfig/network-scripts//ifcfg-eth0.bak Dec 16 12:19:40 localhost system-config-network[3128]: rm //etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/ifcfg-eth0.bak Dec 16 12:19:42 localhost kernel: eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x41E1 Dec 16 12:19:42 localhost dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8 Dec 16 12:19:43 localhost avahi-daemon[2632]: New relevant interface eth0.IPv6 for mDNS.
