- Subject: [tlug] wiki permission requirements
I'm starting a new thread, because the "wiki" went too far off-topic into USB and database comparisons.
So if i understand correctly, our problem is:
- need a mediawiki (many prefer it) - need access restriction rules.
I see two ways
- search for plugin - authentication layer on top
and then there are also choice
- pick somewhat existing solution - create our own..
This all depends on one question:
How much of the management we need:
1 page access restriction
2 page groups and restrictions for page group
3 password only restrictions
4 user/password restriction
5 user groups
6 single-access user management interface (separate user/password for user management)
7 multi-level user management (some users may administer others)
8 page editing restrictions 9 wildcards (ie restrict access to page names matching pattern)
My opinion is 1+2+4+7+8+9.
i would leave as much of the configuration on default settings, just not to spend time and make everyone read it. Also, perhaps we should
form a smaller group of people who would like to participate in this project.
To move things forward, I'll do some experiments with wiki and restrictions and will share the details.

p.s. i couldn't participate in a brainstorming yesterday.. sunday, family :)
