Basically you need to find out is what chipset (for usb, sound, etc)
the computer has. This is where the most incompatibilities happen
with linux.
The dell page does not say anything about such details because PC
manufacturers like to be able to change hardware without changing the
product number/name.
Option one is to buy parts and check for compatibility on the web before
buying. If you want to buy a complete PC from a brand maker, then trying
with knoppix is handy. Don't forget that you should check with it
properly (including sound, usb, SATA disk, suspending, etc).
