 Thank you for your quick responded. Hdparm does not work on my
/dev/sda although it did bring up the information for the ide devices
(thank you! i had actually stumbled upon this during my initial google
search.)

As for the raid faq, I believe my question is still relevant
regardless of whether I need it for raid or not. I was hoping there
would be a simple way to show a drives model name / number.

cat /dev/sda1 didn't do wonders for my kernel ;)
