I've been trying Shift+Space... Lyle, If you prefer GUI tools to command line stuff, you might find Synaptic a bit easier to use than apt-get. It's a graphical front-end to apt that includes some search functions. It may be installed by default, but if not... sudo apt-get install synaptic Dave
