I forgot to mention that there is a discussion going on on -admin
about this very issue. It seems that the majority of people who have
expressed an opinion thus far support removing the authentication, but
obscuring email addresses completely to the right of the @ sign.

Perhaps this is as good a place as any to voice your own opinions.
