Of course it is.  That's human nature; if it's possible to abuse it,
it will be abused.  That's why Rosie Palm is always red, no?  The
whole point of "the invisible hand" is that in the long run abuse is
self-punishing.  While there are reasons to suppose the most
optimistic versions of the Invisible Hand Theorem fail in the case of
intellectual assets, it's still very powerful.  Think about the fact
that in the New York Times 99% of the new facts are concentrated in
about 4 pages of financial market listings, while the other 50 pages
or so of news concentrates on the 1% of the time things don't work so
well (of course, most of that is politics ;-).

Well, you can experience that here in Japan.  The equivalent to the
Billboard Magazine pop rankings is based on pay-per-play plays over
the telephone, I believe.  At a few tens of yen per play you're still
paying more than it's worth, though.  ;-)
