[tlug] Problem with Canna #3

I've tracked down what I believe is the source of the problem using the 
program lsof. When kinput2 is run as root, it uses the directory 
/var/lib/canna, while when it's run as a user, it refuses to use that 
directory, even if that directory is recursively chmoded to 777. This 
seems very odd to me, as it's only happening on gentoo and only to me.
