Hi everyone, I didn't see this on the list archives (for the last 2 years) so here goes: I have a debian linux box and I am trying to connect it to the local windows 2000/Net Appliance NetFiler based network. I am totally unable to get smbmount/smbfs to access the shares so that the kana is visible. The characters always come in as question marks. I have tried samba 2.2.8a (which seems to only have japanese support for being a server and not a client) and 3.0beta2 which supposedly has support but I'm not entirely sure. I have tried every combination of the unicode, iocharset and codepage options with every combination of the utf8, sjis, utc-jp and cp932 arguments. Even the combinations that made no sense. I have also tried every reasonable combination of smb.conf options along the code page and unicode lines. I'm pretty sure these binaries also incorporate the unicode negotiation patch. All I want in the world is to be able to list files on all the servers so that I can check for filesystem namespace collisions in preparation for an upcoming merge. I don't even care if I get the kana; a hex representation would be fine. Needless to say, you get a lot of namespace collisions when your program thinks half of all characters are a '?'. I also tried cygwin under Win2K (which shows the kana properly) but it was the same. I also checked a packet dump from ethereal and it started off with unicode negotiation but fell back to ascii when I was transferring file lists. During that test I discovered that the server itself was sending the question marks. Another issue may be lack of terminal support. I'm using konsole. Finally I have been working only with the NetFiler up to this point, but I have to make it work or come up with a work around. Any ideas? NeilAttachment: signature.asc
