Half of whose comments? Maybe a few Newton zealots are still living in
denial of this, but the handwritten character recognition in the Zaurus
is the fastest and most precise engine I've ever come across on any
device, and I think I've seen them all. It's been constantly worked on
ever since the first PI models came out in '93, and you can use levels
of abstraction and short forms of kanji that are totally unheard of in
any other IME.

Occasionally, yes. Latin character recognition used to be the weakest
element up to the MI series, but it is easily up to par with everyone
else's IME now. Only drawback: no handwritten French or German special
character recognition. All things considered, I'm still faster on the
keyboard, though...

None fit for public consumption, no. :) There are plenty of
alternatives, though, check http://killefiz.de/zaurus for a complete
list of applications you want to add (or replace existing ones with).
I'd probably recommend either the (commercial) tkc suite or the
KOrganizer port (at http://killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=255).
I'd be very interested in test results on the SL-C7x0 models, too.

Forgive me for not simply pointing to my older posts, it's been a while
since I last mentioned it here: We're running a 160+ user strong Zaurus
mailing list that differs from zaurus-general@example.com in that
we designed it specifically for people with both Japanese and
non-Japanese ambitions. Feel free to join us at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zok. I'm afraid you'll need one of those
dreadful Yahoo!-IDs to use the archive, but making it public would have
jeopardized our keeping it spam-free for the three years since its
incubation...
