instead of going down that path why don't you just burn a suse boot disk and
then do an ftp install from
ftp://ftp.kddlabs.co.jp/Linux/packages/SuSE-Linux/suse/i386/8.2?

I doubt it is legal to make copies from SUSE cd-roms / DVD, as they include
proprietary packages for which they bought outside licenses.  The FTP
version is missing those packages ...
