Yes, it is quite good for the newcomer.  Excellent hardware recognition,
runs fairly well, albeit, imho a bit slower than some of the leaner
distributions.  (Also, of course, it's running from the CD, so that also
contributes to the lack of speed.)

Anyway, yes, give it a shot as an introduction.
