[tlug] Upgrading Perl on Linux box

Hi All,

I'm considering an upgrade to Perl 5.8.0 on my Linux box (RedHat 7.1. 
kernel 2.4.7-10) which currently has version 5.6.0 (as supplied by 
RedHat).  I'm somewhat concerned about overwriting the current 5.6.0 
installation.  

Should I be concerned about this?  
And if anyone out there has done this kind of install, what steps would 
you recommend that I take for smooth upgrade?  (I have not updgraded 
versions of Perl before).
