It's not that - I was getting for all kinds of odd addresses, rarely ever 'jim' .
I disabled webmaster (unlike postmaster, it's not required by the RFC, IIRC. The error message says to "send to 'root' instead".)

I was getting mail for address like ViagraUser(a)mmdc.net and junk like that.

I do like having wildcard address accepted since I can then create unique addresses for different sites, to see if my address is getting sold. For example, if I need a valid address to put in a form at www.LikelySpamSite.com, I can use "LikelySpamSite(a)mmdc.net" and then later blackhole it if I get spam on that address.

Since I switched back to my old method of forwarding everything to my AT&T address, ViagraUser(a)mmdc.net would still get to me, but nothing ever comes... I'm guessing it's because I've firewalled port 25 at www.mmdc.net.

I was talking with my brother the other day and we were talking about writing a bogus mail server to sit waiting for spammers on IP addresses that have web servers (that also have other servers configured as MX hosts) The idea was to keep the spambot busy with a lot of delays and seemingly-valid responses. How long can you string out a mail conversation? HELO? HELO? ;-)
