RE: [tlug] Networking gear

I have two linksys 8 port routers at my home. I am using only one of them.
I also have a NetGear switch also 8 port that I am not using I would like to
sell.

Lynksis Model # befsr81

I don't remember the model of the NetGear, but it is a small brown metal
box. It is only a switch.

I love them both.

I have had bad luck with SMC network cards, but haven't tried their
switches.

Subject: [tlug] Networking gear

I am replacing the crappy old hubs that I have been using to power my
home network for years.

What I need is a new switch, and I want it to be fast, cheap, and
reliable. (The old paradox, right?) I need at least 8 ports, but 16
would be cool. I prefer the desktop form factor, but if anyone knows
of an outstanding rack-mount switch that is pretty cheap, that would
work as well.

I am leaning towards either NetGear or LinkSys (the FS608 or FS116
from the former or the EZXS16W or EZXS88W from the latter), but I am
open to suggestions. SMC also has the EZ6516TX at a very low price,
but I am a bit wary of them.

I also need to get a WAP. I have a LinkSys WPC11 PCMCIA card for my
laptop, so I guess I require a IEEE 802.11-LAN WAP, right? Again, I am
leaning toward LinkSys (the WAP11, in this case).

So, please suggest some stuff that has served you well. I do not want
to be stuck with some crappy crap at the end of the day. ;)

TIA,
Josh
