- Subject: [tlug] Japanese encoding problem
Not quite a Linux question but since I'm using vim ...
I'm having trouble with a file that contains a large dump of a japanese
database. The problem is that in the database they used a japanese character
as a separator. I'm trying to do a global replace of that separator but vim
can't find it or even display it ...
The separator looks like a dot at the same height as a hyphen, something
like this ?
In vi and vim it displays as a ^K
I've trying to a search and replace on ^K but vim says in can't find it.
my questions are:
1- how do I generate a ^K (I've been doing a copy and paste form my windows
client of the character into vim to get a ^K). If I try and directly input
(with the default encoding) ? using the windows IME I get ~AE instead. If I
try with encoding set to SJIS to input ? I get the dot to show up as a dot
but vim can't find it in the text.
2- with encoding set to sjis the file shows up fine *except* for the dot
that shows up as ^K. Why is this?
3- Most importantly how can I do a global replace on this annoying ^K
Thanks!
Jc
