There is a really low chance that passwords in a company will get cracked
by brute force. 
Anyone who has access to /etc/shadow won't be bothering to run john. 
Company networks are cracked because of the lack of software/os updates
and unsecure software usage.
Even the longest/strongest passwords can be sniffed if lets say a company
worker downloads his email via normal pop3 from home. 

I'm not saying you shouldn't check for weak passwords, cause you're
getting paid for it even if it's not much of a practical use.
