Yes, you did see GigE cards, and some of the low-end ones are actually relatively
cheap (but don't expect to get more than 400 or 500 mbps out of them).  However,
those, like other ethernet cards, are for LAN networking not WAN networking.

The speed Chris meant was impossible was a 100 MB connection, not a 100
Mb connection.  It is certainly possible to get a connection of 100 Mb, or
much more if you can afford it.  Internet backbones do indeed transit a
lot more than 100 MB/second (it's still measured in b, not B, though), but
how many people do you know who have an Internet backbone at home?
If you say you know some, I wanna know where they are so I can
move in and hook up :-)
