Well, it's a bit like me asking about a problem with my Mercedes, and
you saying "well if you had a BMW ......" 8-)}

It has, and I can do it, but I'm put off by the thought that it could
cause more problems than the new versions solve.
I used to run on a "ain't-broke-don't-fix" basis, but having been hacked
I'm out to apply every security upgrade I can. Most of the vulnerability
problems with linuxes appear to be associated with users getting root
access, which is not a major problem for me.
