This would likely be a bad time to mention dselect, right?
I have actually had such a round-robin dependency problem in Debian once. About a year ago. I had to press "Q"in dselect to get past it.
The RPM's have a "force" option, right? Just a thought.
The one RedHat installation I worked on extensively was 6.2, so I don't have much else to add to this discussion.
