in your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 do you have 
something like:

   DEVICE=eth0
   ONBOOT=yes
   BOOTPROTO=dhcp

and in /etc/sysconfig/network:

   NETWORKING=yes
   HOSTNAME=your.host.name.com

look for 'pump' -- RedHat does not use 'dhcpc'
