welll....it detects it ok, i.e I have tried boting with my old boot disk and
it detects it, and tries to load it, doesnt work though. I still cant mount
a floppy under linux, so I dont think that would work :-(

Can you use the floppy drive?  If so, I'll mail you a defconfig
and you can sneakernet it to the sick machine on a floppy.
