I'm perplexed in the error shown below. What's going on? (This is a renewal for the previously sent message "boot error".) It must be snap for experienced people. My goal of this asking is to restore a Linux environment.1) What is the meaning of "crc error"?2) How can we get rid of this problem? My weird story is this. I was supposing the bootable CD-ROM could boot Linux no matter what file systems the HD had. Also am I. After my hard disk had been FDISKed by Windows 98, I tried booting Slackware 8.0 Linux to be installed. Then my machine freezed with the following words:==============================================LILO(Some lines omitted)boot :Loading Linux ..................Uncompressing Linux ...crc error-- System halted==============================================I tried booting old Slackware 3.6 Linux, but I got the same message as above. Incidentally I used its LILO bootdisk and on the screen I found:==============================================boot :Loading ...........................................................................................(Most lines omitted)Kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:01==============================================I again tried booting by the simple Boot Disk copied from vmlinuz, and I got nothing new.Slack 8.0 was newly unpacked recently and I'm pretty sure that my Slack 3.6 and its boot disks are in good condition. In fact, those Linux systems did perfectly worked before I tried setting up one of Microsoft Windows. I don't have a "rescue" disk, that even I don't know of.Now, Linux system software but MS Windows doesn't work on my computer, so I have no help, except for asking experts. How do we troubleshoot it in that environment where no Linux does work? Is Windows temporarilly helpful? What I want is to fdisk a FAT-FDISKed HD by a Linux bootable CD.Any questions? Please help in plain English.Regards,Hoshino
