And my memory might be deceiving me Tobias> too... Well, I've never configured a system that dumped core in a panic until very recently. So, as Dmytry Kovalov points out, the rule probably goes back way before Linux. Interestingly enough, my NetBSD system has recently taken to telling me I have an invalid dump because my swap is too small. And as Scott Stone points out, a couple of years ago the price of memory dropped low enough that people could afford enough RAM (>128MB) that the stable Linux kernel could not handle that much swap. That period didn't last long, of course, but it was there. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 _________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ What are those straight lines for?
