I'm not convinced that ncpmount is really intended for production use, it seems to be lacking in many areas. I would just migrate the data directly from the Novell server to your Linux/Solaris/BSD box via a tape backup system that is common amongst those operating systems (is there one? Solaris/Novell I *think* can both use Veritas/Legato..?) , or, failing that, fire up the Novell NFS server and copy the stuff over that way..? You could also use Samba. ie, have an NT box that can speak both TCP/IP and IPX/Netware open up the relevant shares on the Novell server, select all, and drag-and-drop into a folder that points to a share on your UNIX Samba server. I've done Novell->UNIX/Samba migrations this way before, although I'm not sure how well it will preserve Japanese. We moved about 30 gigabytes of stuff off an old failing PC running Novell 4.10 onto a Sun E450 (Solaris 7) running Samba... using drag-and-drop on a windows NT PC :) Hey, it worked. And I would recommend that over using ncpmount, actually. ----------------------------------------------------- Scott M. After lurking for a bit, sifting what I could find on the Net, and rejoicing at discovering ACLs for Linux (though still having a bear of a time getting it to boot), I've decided to ask for the collective wisdom of TLUG. I work in a Mac/PC/Japanese/English environment, all using a Netware 4.11 server. We're looking at Linux, and I've almost got them convinced. The only problem I'm running into is getting the multi-byte-named files from the Netware server into Linux. Right now, after mounting a Netware volume under Linux, I can see the English files, but not the Japanese files. I saw an option to do something about code pages and character sets on the ncpmount, however I'm still not sufficiently versed to have a clue what might work. So, anyone have any suggestions? Thanks much...
