my spectacular disk foobar episode happened on my LAPTOP, using an IDE disk, not a SCSI disk. It didn't happen as a result of doing any low-level FS ops, it just HAPPENED while updatedb was doing its normal running through and finding-of-truffles that it does on a daily basis. ----------------------------------------------------- Scott M. Ah, but you say you haven't seen Red Hat > do that on IDE disks, it only does that to SCSI disks? No, he said he's never seen it happen on a fixed disk (and he don't mean "repaired" or "neutered" :-) I've never seen it happen on a fixed disk either (I run mostly SCSI, but have an IDE in one machine). I have no removeable disks, so can't test it there. And maybe I'm just as well off not being able to duplicate this :-) Jonathan ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Technical Meeting: Sat, May 12 13:30- Next Nomikai Meeting: Fri, June (TBA) 19:30- Tengu Tokyo Eki Mae ----------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan
